Budget Update

Several days ago, I wrote about the dreaded “b” word.  You know, the budget word.  We have finished the series by YNAB and have decided that we are going to buy the series.

What we learned from the YNAB series

  • We learned that budgeting is not an evil thing.  Budgeting is a tool that can be used to help guide you and keep you on track.
  • We learned that budgeting doesn’t have to take all day.  It can be done in a matter of minutes.
  • We learned that you need to be flexible in budgeting.  Our problem was that we thought that it was written in stone.  We weren’t letting flexibility into the picture.
  • We learned that we cannot have the budget just on paper.  What I mean by that is that we cannot just have it on paper and leave the money sitting in our checking account.  That’s not going to work for us.  We are opening an ING savings account and will transfer the money budget for such items as insurance into savings until we actually need them.  We would try and rationalize that it was in checking and use it.  Hopefully later on we will become self controlled enough not to need to do this.

If you need help in starting a budget and sticking to a budget, then this program may be what you need. We are trying it, so come on along and try it with us. Here’s the link to YNAB (You Need A Budget)!!!

If you’re starting to budget and you are like me and my husband and you need a separate bank to put your savings in, then you might want to consider trying INGDirect. I’m including the link for your convenience.
