Your Spice Pantry

What spices do you stock in your pantry?  There are so many different spices.

Beside salt and pepper, these are some of my favorite spices.

1.   Paprika

My mom used to use paprika only on deviled eggs, but paprika can be used for so much more.  It can be sprinkled on salads or appetizers.  I use it in the flour dusting that I put on chicken.  There is also smoked paprika.  I haven’t used it yet but I’ve seen on TV where it is good to use on potatoes after frying.

2.   Chili Powder

My hubby likes a lot of chili powder in his chili.  I can’t take it quite so spicy, so he uses it like pepper on his chili.

3.   Garlic Salt or Powder

Great on garlic bread.  We use it to season hamburgers, stews, and soups.

4.   Onion Salt or Powder

We use it in stews and soups.  Also, my hubby likes it on his hamburgers.

5.   Cumin

Cumin is great in stews.  It is also a must in cooking spicy Mexican dishes.

6.   Cinnamon

When I make sugar and cinnamon toast, I make it in a skillet on top of the stove.  I put butter on the bread and lightly toast it, then put the sugar and cinnamon mixture on top of it.  Yum!!!!

7. Sage

Sage is one that I have more than one bottle.  I use it only at Thanksgiving when I make dressing.  This is one spice that you have to smell before you use.  If it doesn’t smell, it’s not any good.

What are some of your favorite spices?  Leave us a comment and let us know.

Till next time,

I know it’s an herb and not a spice, but I can’t live without basil.

Great post! I didn’t know that about Sage. Guess I better go smell mine. I’ve had it for awhile. : )

I heard that it’s not good to store the spices in the cupboards over the stove cause it dries the spices or something. Correct me if I’m wrong:)
