$154.81 Worth of Groceries for $90.22

Yesterday was my regular grocery shopping day.  Each week I make my list out and then check to see if the local grocery stores have anything on sale that is on my list before going to the local superstore.  This week my local Albertson’s was having a very good sale.    So I decided that I’d go there first and then the supercenter if needed later on.

They had their petite sirloins on sale buy 1 get 2 free.  Their pork loin was also on sale buy 1 get 1 free.  They had their Tyson Center Cut Bacon on sale buy 1 get 2 free.  PopTarts were 99 cents with the in-store coupon.  Bottled water was marked down $2.00.  The 32 oz. bottles of Gatorade was 10 for $10.00.   1/2 gallon milk was on sale 10 for $10.00.

I stocked up on the petite sirloin and paid $10.88 for 3 packs with 2 steaks in each pack and weighing 1.5 lbs each.   They took off $10.52 and $10.70 for the 2 free.   Also, I stocked up on 2 packs of pork loins weighing three pounds each, paying only a total of $7.18.  They took off $5.33 for the 1 free one.  The milk’s date was about 10 days out and we go through a lot of milk so I got 5 1/2 gallons of milk.  My son loves PopTarts and so two boxes of them went into the basket.  We’ve never used Tyson bacon.  It looked pretty good so we decided we’d give it a try.  In the end we ended up paying $5.99 for three packs of bacon.  They took off $11.98 for the bacon.

By the time that I got finished shopping, I had $154.81 of groceries in my cart and ended up only paying $90.22.  A total of $64.59 was taken off the total.  It was GREAT!!!!  Next time I will definitely do more couponing with the sales circulars.  Below is a picture of the bottom of my receipt.

You know those pop-tarts are about 100% sugar right?

i like to grocery shop. a lot of people don’t but i do.

  3. I don’t often save much in a lump sum on my groceries because I use the stockpiling method and try to keep the trips down, but I usually save between 40-50% of the total on whatever I need that week.

The most I ever saved in one go was a little over $103, but I had spent $200.

Okay I’m astonished!I need to do more like that.Being a guy I’ve never got into the whole coupon thing but after seeing this I had better start.

  5. Pop Tarts aren’t a usual buy in my household because they do contain so much sugar. The number eaten at one time is very limited.

  6. Superfresh (A&P) is tripling coupons up to 99 cents this week. I have a great stockpile so I bought things that were free or less than a dollar with coupons. I didn’t “need” much. My bill was $230 before card and coupons and just over $16 when I left the store. I had so much in the cart I almost didn’t have space for the baby! That was my best trip ever!!!!!
