The Temperatures Are Extremely Hot!

Hot Summer Sun

Hot Summer Sun by mommamia @ Flickr.com

The temperature down here in southern West Texas has been way above 100 degrees nearly everyday. For the past two days, the official temperature has run right at 109 degrees.  One day this week on our outside thermometer it read 112 degrees in the shade.

When the temperature is extremely hot, it is important to take some precautions to ensure that you do not become dehydrated, suffer heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Make sure that you drink plenty of liquids.  Drink even when you are not thirsty.  This will help prevent dehydration.  Wear loose light colored clothing.  If possible stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.

If you have older neighbors or relatives, check on them throughout the day. Older people are more sensitive to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or dehydration.  Make sure that they are staying cool and drinking enough fluids.

If you have to be out in the heat to run an errand, check with your older neighbors or relatives to see if they have any errands that they need run. If you are going to the grocery store, ask them if you can pick up some items for them.

These are just a few suggestions for ways to keep safe during extreme temperatures and also to help older neighbors or relatives to stay safe.  What are some ways that you stay safe or help the elderly to stay safe during the extreme triple digit temperatures of summer?  Leave us a comment — we’d love to hear from you.

Till next time,
