Last Minute Father’s Day Gift Ideas

It’s the Friday before Father’s Day and you realize that you haven’t got Dad anything for his special day. Funds are low and you are fresh out of ideas.  What are you going to do?

Here are some frugal tips for that quick and easy present for Dad.

Make some homemade coupons using your computer and printer. Just a few ideas for coupons might be:

  • a day of fishing with Dad
  • a picnic lunch with Dad
  • a favorite home cooked meal
  • “I’ll Do Three Chores You Hate” day
  • Wash and Vacuum Your Car
Gift Baskets for Dad

Gift Baskets for Dad

If you have siblings, it’s not too late to get together with them and pool your funds and create a gift basket for Dad. By pooling your funds, you can create some pretty neat gift baskets!!! Some possible gift basket ideas would be:

  • A “Let’s Go Fishing” Basket — include new fishing lures, a new fishing reel, bobbers, a hook remover, and anything else that he may be needing but is putting off buying.  Include one of those handmade coupons for a day of fishing with Dad.
  • A “Car Wash Basket” — use a car wash bucket and fill it with soft sponges, a chamois, air freshener, Armor All, and window cleaner.  Add in some homemade coupons to help him wash his car and you are all set.
  • A “Favorite Sports Basket” — Does Dad have a favorite sport or sports team?  Make him a basket using memorabilia from all his favorite sports or sports team.  Include a homemade coupon for a day of watching his favorite sport without any interruptions.
  • A “Grilling Basket” – Got a Dad that loves to grill?   Use a metal bucket and include some of his favorite “grilling supplies”.  Include skewers, basting mop, thermometer, butane lighter, wire brush, grill basket, tongs, fork, spatula, his favorite BBQ sauces and grill seasonings.
  • A “Favorite Snack Basket” — Use an expensive cooler or spare wicker basket that you may have around the house and fill it with his favorite snacks and drinks.

Make that homemade basket look store bought by: Buying some cellophane and wrap around it.  It’s really simple to make it look store bought.  Lay the cellophane lengthwise out on a table.  Place the basket in the middle and pull up each end of the cellophane.   Use a bread twisty or a rubber band to hold the cellophone sides together at the toop.  Cut the top to the desired length.  Add a store bought ribbon (they can be found at the dollar stores).  Slide a store bought or homemade card inside and tuck in the sides of the cellophane so there won’t be any gapping holes.

These are just a few ideas for those last minute Father’s Day Gift ideas.  We’d love to hear some of your favorite last minute Father’s Day gift ideas.  Leave us a comment.

  1. Mik says:

Great post, crap, father’s day, thanks for the reminder!

  2. These are great tips. Alas, my father and mother switched their traditional gender roles and hobbies almost completely (and yet I turned out mostly normal ;P) and I struggle to find gifts that make sense. Everyone’s advertising ‘manly men’ gifts, and I’d be better off sending him a new teapot and a cozy.

  3. Ninah says:

I didn’t get the fathers in my family anything because I had no idea what to give. I wish I was able to read your post though and then I would have had some ideas. I love the basket ideas

  4. The ideal gift for dad anytime of the year, a classy signed sports memorabilia to delight him…
