Recently on one of my trips around Google, I ran across the site, Groceries Dirt Cheap. The title alone made me do a double take and stay at the site. Another reason is because she is in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and I’m a West Texas housewife and it’s a Texas thing…just wanted to see what another Texas housewife was doing to make ends meet. The big reason was when I read that she feeds her family of 7, three cats, and a dog on a budget of $70.00 a week.
Not only is she saving her family money, she turned her passion for couponing into a burgeoning business. She offers monthly memberships to her site and lists 10 reasons why you should join, one being that you get 6 monthly shopping lists and matches to the available online coupons and print coupons on the list. She’s also available to her members by phone.
Now, for me, it’s not feasible to join her site because Dallas/Fort Worth is about 250 miles away and the sales are not the same down here, but I definitely am thinking about attending the class on December 6 in Irving, TX. We need a weekend away and who knows it might be a feasible thing for me to get something like this started in my area.
If you haven’t stopped by her site, it’s definitely worthy of a visit! Who knows you might want to start something like this in your area!
Till next time,

The Frugal Housewife

wow 70$ per week???
Nice one there.
You are right the title seems intriguing so it’s natural that every body would like to check it.
I am always wary of subscription sites, $70 a week doesn’t sound that great to me. Our budget is $200 a month ($46 a week) and all our household supplies are included in that too. If it is groceries and household supplies for 7 people then it is pretty good. Have you subscribed? What did you think.
Thanks for being one of my top 10 Entrecard droppers this month. I posted a thank you link on my blog today
I started a website called Mom Robs Grocery Stores (http://robthestores.blogspot.com) to help explain how people can use coupons to maximize their savings.
I love using coupons. They make such a huge difference in our grocery expenses.
I will check out the site. However, what she is offering for a fee is available all over the web on various other sites. There are wonderful bloggers who provide ad details and coupon match ups for various stores, free. Unless she’s giving something else that is valuable, the subscription isn’t worth it.
I just emailed this link over to my husbands family. They live in that area.
Let me know what they think and if they attend one of her classes. From what I’ve read, she’s pretty well known around the grocery stores in that area and knows the stores inside and out, along with their prices. I just don’t have the time or energy right now to go to the lengths that it appears that she goes to save money on her groceries.
Every area has their own selections which are almost always reasonably priced. Like here in Ohio we have Great Lakes Brewing Company and Columbus Brewing Company in six packs at very reasonable prices ($6-7). So my suggestion is to see what the most local 6-pack you can get is.
I spend way too much on groceries. I try to get coupons online, but it seems so time consuming. I suppose I could look at it like this: a little time spent to save some money is well worth it, right?
The type of couponing she does takes money saving to the level of “high science.” But not checking your local sales and coupon ads in the paper is silly. Like not haggling when buying a car. Most of us could use a basic course on high efficient couponing. The type where 15 minutes of collecting the double/triple coupons and maximizing our trip to the one store we shop at most frequently.
Excellent find.
