Car Care Couponing

Picture by D. Bjorn, soon off hiatus!

When we think of couponing, we tend to think of only using them for groceries or personal products.  But that’s not really the case! We have a publication that comes out in our town called “The Money Clip”.  They have coupons for various businesses around town.  One of those coupons was for the local Firestone.  We went by there tonight to get our car’s state inspection.  I was so proud of The Frugal Hubby!  He had been looking at the coupons and started asking the manager if he could use various coupons in combination together and the manager said sure!  Soooooo…. here is what he is going to have done tomorrow, along with an estimate of what it is going to cost.

On our 1998 Lexus, he is going to have:

  • the oil changed — $21.95 — He has a coupon for $10 off.  Oil change should cost around $11.95
  • a new battery installed.  It has to be installed by a professional because of the security settings on the car.  — $115 — He has a $10 off coupon from the Money Clip.  Battery with installation should cost around $105.
  • In addition to those coupons, we have a $10 off coupon for a survey we took and they are also offering 10% off the total.  $11.95 + $105 = $116.95 minus the $10 survey coupon = $106.95 minus the $10.69 for the 10% discount = $96.26 plus tax.

If all goes like it should, he will save approximately $40 on the work he is having done tomorrow! Couponing really does save money on more than just groceries and personal items!  I’ll give an update along with the final cost!

Till next time,

Your husband sure is a sharp man to take advantage of those coupons. My dad’s always very keen about these sort of savings wherever possible as well and it saves us a lot of money on the long run. :)

    Till then,

Wow – your husband did a great job! Coupons are also good for golf games or hitting balls. My husband will use them if I cut them out and give them to him.

11.95 for an oil change is a SUPER good deal. Around here where I live I pay a whopping $35 dollar Oil change. By the looks of it, you guys are getting an awesome deal! I need to find myself a better oil change place, hah.

  5. WOW, this is brilliant! I had no idea you could save so much on your car repair/maintenance. I will look for coupons for myself. :) Thanks…
