Saving Money On Car Insurance

Time’s are tough and we all are looking for ways to cut corners and save money. My hubby has jumped on the frugal band wagon and has started looking for ways to cut costs.  Not too long ago he used coupons and asked money saving questions when we needed work on our car.  He is going to do a post on his money saving tips a little later but he has found another money saving tip that he wanted me to share.  He cut the cost of our car insurance by $11.00 each installment.  We pay our six month insurance in four installments.

How did he do this?

He noticed on our online banking the other day that our bank had teamed up with our insurance and they were offering a discount if we did the electronic withdrawal option.  I checked it out this morning.  They showed us the discount and we talked about it.  It’s a lot more convenient for me because it’s automatically taken out of the checking account.  I won’t forget to make the payment and we got the discount! So I signed us up!

A piece of frugal advice –

Don’t be afraid to check out the offers.   If you see an advertisement for something like this,  ask your insurance company and bank questions about it.  If they don’t know anything about it, then don’t do it.   It’s more than likely a scam.   If it hadn’t been offered on our online insurance screen and if the bank’s information had not been the same as the insurance company’s, I wouldn’t have signed up. It would have been a red flag not to give away our information.  But they were the same and I love getting the discount!

Leave us a comment and let us know how you’ve cut costs on your auto insurance!

Till next time,

  1. I wish I was able to save some money on car insurance. Where I live there is only government run insurance. So we don’t get to shop around for insurance. We just get stuck with whatever they want to charge us.
