The Lights are Still On!

My Blackberry’s lights are still on!

My Blackberry Is Working!

It was quite a night after I wrote my previous post about my Blackberry’s Pepsi bath.  Here’s what happened.

I realized that all my numbers that I use a lot were only in the cell phone so I put the battery back in and fired her up. I got the numbers I needed and tried to turn off the phone.  The phone started dialing a random number.  It randomly dialed my boss’s number at 10:25 p.m.   I could hear the voice mail come on as I was trying to get it to stop.  Choice words starting flying out of my mouth as I was trying to take the battery back out.  I can’t remember if I got the battery out before the “beep” to leave a message came on so there may be an earful on the voice mail.  He’s on a business trip and I talked to him today and he laughed about it and hasn’t checked his voice mail but he’s not used to hearing me use those choice words so I was quite embarrassed.

The phone stayed in the uncooked rice all night. Sunday morning I got up and started putting it back together.  It was barely working, the keyboard would hardly work, the on/off button wouldn’t work and then the screen light went out.  So I resigned myself to making the trip to Sprint, standing in line, and trying to explain to them what happened to the phone.

Then my hubby came in the room and asked how the phone was doing. I told him it died and we were going to Sprint.  He was like…”oh really.  Then why is the screen lit up on the phone and the red light is working at the top like it’s working and you got email.”  I picked up the phone and the phone was working.   The roller ball would go to each email folder and I could open them.  I could see my text messages.  Answering them was a bit rough for a while.   It took a while for the keyboard to work right but it finally started working like pre-soda bath. And I think the screen is brighter and the sound is better than pre-bath.

We have 60 days to report it to the insurance through the phone company so we are going to wait to see what happens.  If it finally dies, I’ll pay the $100 deductible and get a new phone. It’s also given me several ideas for posts…

So for now…I’m doing my HAPPY dance!!!

Till next time,

If you are ever desperate to fix something electronic like that and there is NO warranty, so it wouldn’t hurt if this did not work… you can also pour a bit of rubbing alcohol in it – that will help dry it actually :) BUT LAST RESORT ONLY IF NOTHING ELSE WORKED and if there is no warranty. (wow can you tell I am a hardware tech?)

  2. I laughed when I heard about the Pepsi bath! My phone once took a cream of mushroom soup bath. Taught me not to eat and try to talk on the phone at the same time…ha-ha.
Luckily, mine was an old one and I was on the verge of getting a new one anyway. I did lose all my numbers though (sad face…ha-ha).

  3. LOL!!! Thank goodness I took the insurance out on this one!! Day 4 and it’s still working! My digital camera didn’t take a good picture of the phone…the screen is actually clear and bright.

I just have to say this post started to scare me, I love my Blackberry and have no insurance on it!! UGH! Glad you have lights on it at least and yes choice words on bosses voicemail would be embarrassing for me too! LOL

I love that some things are working even better! Ever since I read your post I have been paying extra attention to where I put a glass of something and my phone. I can my phone just jumping into my coffee or something.

  6. I started not to take the insurance but after remembering the first phone that went into coffee all those years ago, I decided it would be better to go ahead and take it this time. Also, I bought the hard case to go around the phone and the screen sheet. The guy at Sprint told me that if I had those on the phone then in some cases I wouldn’t have a deductible if the phone broke. Water or Pepsi didn’t fall into one of those situations. So if it does eventually go out, I’ll have to pay the deductible but they will replace the phone.

  7. The Frugal Hubby now asks me every time I have a glass of something where my phone is. Wish the digital camera had taken a better photo. It really is clear and the sound is good. The space is still sticking a bit but I can live with that.

  8. LOL!!! I’m hoping that it will last until the newer phones come out at the end of June. I may trade up to another phone but I really do like my Blackberry so I’m not sure if I will or not.

  9. Thanks for the tip!!!
