I love Pinterest! It’s my “go-to” place for keeping pictures and links of things I want to make or try. One of my boards is “Cakes and Pies“. Right now it has 37 pins featuring all kinds of cakes and pies. Some cakes are works of art. Be sure to check it out and “Follow”!
Recently I was searching for some new cake ideas to add to my Pinterest board. The search came back with some interesting cakes baked in a mug or coffee cup. Most were baked in the microwave. I started thinking about just how safe it is to bake them this way. Here’s some tips I came up with if you want to bake a cake in a mug in the microwave.
- If you are going to bake it in the microwave, make sure that you are using a mug or cup that is “microwave safe”. Not only can the mug or cup break at higher temperatures but if there is any lead in the glaze of the cup, it can seep into your cake. Also, there are some mugs or coffee cups that might have a metal rim or decoration. You would not want to put that in the microwave because it might catch fire.
- Spray the inside of the cup with “no-stick” spray.
- Each microwave bakes differently. Don’t overcook the cake. If you do, it can become stiff or rubbery. Plus it will probably taste absolutely yucky if you do!
- Be careful taking the cup out of the microwave. It will be HOT!
