TYPES OF PHOTOS WE FEATURE
We feature photos that we have taken and are our property along with photos that belong to others that have given us permission to use in our posts.
IDENTIFICATION OF PHOTOS
All photos will be clearly marked with information as to who owns them and linkbacks (if required) to the websites where they can be found.
WHERE DO YOU FIND THE PHOTOS AND LINKS TO USE ON THE FRUGAL HOUSEWIFE?
We belong to several Roundup Facebook groups that feature master lists of subjects for posts and also allow posts requesting the use of photos and links by the blog owners. The owners of the blogs give permission to use their photos either in a collage or in the blog post.
We also have made a database of websites that allow their photos to be used in blog roundups and features.
We also use several stock photo websites. These include but are not limited to Rawpixel, Unsplash, and Pexels. When we use a photo from one of the stock photo websites, we take every precaution to make sure that permission has been given to use the photo. We screenshot the permissions listed with the photos, the upload date to the stock photo company (if available), as well as screenshots of Google searches showing the number of websites the photos are in use on. We also make a screenshot of the date the photo was downloaded.
YOU ALSO HAVE USED EMBEDS FROM PINTEREST, INSTAGRAM, AND YOUTUBE ON YOUR SITE. DID YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THOSE?
Yes. We check the permissions on each site before using them and also take the same care in documenting the permissions as we do with the photos. If at any time, the permissions change on any of these sites or if requested, we will take down the embeds.
WILL LINKBACKS TO THE WEBSITES WHO HAVE GIVEN PERMISSION FOR THEIR PHOTOS TO BE FEATURED BE “DOFOLLOW”?
The linkbacks will be “dofollow” unless we are paid to publish the post. In the case of a paid post, the linkback will be “nofollow”.

I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND AND NO LONGER WANT MY PHOTO FEATURED ON THE FRUGAL HOUSEWIFE. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
If you have given us permission in a roundup or by email, just contact us at contactus@thefrugalhousewife.com and provide your name, blog name, blog url, and the post on our site that is featuring your photo and we will remove it as well as the link to your site.
WE LIKE YOUR PHOTOS. CAN WE LINK DIRECTLY TO A PHOTO ON YOUR WEBSITE?
Absolutely No. Displaying an image on your website by linking directly to a photo on another website is called “hotlinking”. Hotlinking is bad because it steals bandwidth from the hosting plan of the website you are directly linking to.
We have had a problem with websites stealing our bandwidth and have started monitoring the situation. Our procedure now is to notify the site’s web host of the hotlinking problem. Then we block the website from being able to access our site.
YOU FEATURED MY PHOTO WITHOUT PERMISSION. WHAT STEPS DO I NEED TO TAKE TO GET THE PHOTO TAKEN DOWN?
Please know that before any photo is featured on The Frugal Housewife we have taken several steps to make sure that we have permission to use the photo.
We understand that sometimes permission is given and then the website/blog/person may forget that they gave permission. We all are human and make mistakes from time to time.
For that reason, we keep up-to-date records of the permissions that are given to us. This includes but is not limited to copies of emails and screenshots of permission and use requirements that may be listed on websites and/or on the signup pages of the Facebook groups along with the date of the permission that was given.
We also go back to each website in our database of websites and update whether the requirements have changed for the websites. If the website has changed its permissions, it is noted. If they no longer give permission to use their photos, the website is taken out of our database.
We have created the following guidelines for photos that people assert that we have used without permission to help in requesting that photos be taken down.
