Survey Junkie: An Honest Review - The Frugal Housewife

In this post, we are giving you an honest review of Survey Junkie. We are an affiliate of Survey Junkie but it in no way has influenced our opinion about Survey Junkie.

If you have been looking for ways to earn money by taking surveys then you already know there are a lot of survey sites out there on the internet. Each one tells you how easy it is to make extra money.

Let’s face it — it is hard to tell which survey site is a legitimate survey site and which one is a scam! There is nothing wrong with being cautious when signing up for any site — especially survey sites. I tend to be on the overly cautious side myself. I’ve been scammed too many times.

The only way to give you an honest opinion of Survey Junkie is by signing up and using Survey Junkie. So that is what we did and here is what we found.

A little bit about Survey Junkie

Survey Junkie is one of the oldest survey panels on the internet. They were founded in 2011. You can find out more about them at the BBB (Better Business Bureau) here.

Survey Junkie conducts market research.

Companies use Survey Junkie to conduct their market research from real consumers like you and me.

They gather consumer opinions about products and innovations. Some of the information surveyors are asked includes:

whether you do the shopping for your household;
demographic info about your household, such as gender, relationship status, zip code, country and date of birth;
do you own a pet?;
if you own a car; and
how many kids you have.

Signing up for Survey Junkie

Signing up for Survey Junkie is really easy. You just create a profile. Answer a few additional questions. When you are finished you will get a screen that looks like the following showing that you have received 25 points. It was a fast process and I was ready to start updating my profile and earn more points in just a few minutes.

Check out the left side of the screen in the photo above. You additional points for confirming your email, checking out how it works, and completing your profile.

THE FRUGAL HOUSEWIFE TIP FOR JOINING SURVEY SITES: Set up a separate email account that is just for survey sites that you join. You will probably start getting a lot of emails. This way you can keep it separate from your regular email. There is an option to add a second email if you choose to get paid via PayPal.

Verify identity before redeeming points.

At the end of my opening survey, I got a screen that popped up telling me that I must “Verify” your identity before redeeming my points. There is more information in the FAQ section of Survey Junkie on how to redeem points. I will complete that at a later time when I’m closer to redeeming my points.

Add the Survey Junkie Extension to Google Chrome and get extra points.

You can add an extension to Google Chrome to get an additional 150 points added to your account within 30 days.

Start taking surveys after filling out the profile questions.

Once you take the profile surveys and add the Google Chrome extension (if you choose to do so), then you will get a screen like mine above. It shows the number of points that I have earned in about 10 minutes of signing up and it shows the surveys that are available for me to take.

It gives the Survey Number, how many points you will earn if you qualify for the survey and an estimation of how long it will take you to complete the survey. To take the survey just click the “Take Survey” button. You will be asked some market research questions and then get a screen telling you whether you are chosen to participate in the survey.

Survey Junkie has an easy to read point tracker that shows how many Lifetime Points you have earned and also how much you have in Redeemable points in Dollar amount.

Pros and Cons of Joining Survey Junkie

No review would be complete without a list of the pros and cons of the survey site.

Pros:

Survey Junkie is not a scam.
It is free and easy to register as a member.
You don’t have to install anything to use Survey Junkie. You can install the Google Chrome extension. It is an option.
There are lots of ways to earn extra points.
The site has an excellent FAQ and customer support.
You can earn electronic gift cards or get paid via PayPal.
They notify you by email when there are surveys available.

Cons:

You may have to apply to several surveys before you find one you qualify to take.
The survey questions are often the same which makes taking surveys sometimes very redundant.
There isn’t an app for mobile so that you can take the surveys on your mobile phone or tablet.
The surveys do tend to fill up very fast. You will need to check your Survey Junkie account often.
The subject of the survey is not listed so you do not know what the survey is about before starting the survey.
Taking surveys will not make you get rich. It is, however, a great way to make an extra $10 at a time.

The Frugal Housewife’s Honest Review of Survey Junkie …

Survey Junkie is a legitimate survey site where you can earn a “little” extra money without having to put a lot of time and effort into it. If you have a little free time to earn extra cash then try this survey site. I love that I can make a little money while I’m watching a movie instead of playing a game on the computer at night. And, it is a great format to be able give opinions about products — good or bad.

One thing — survey sites are not right for you if you are uncomfortable giving out personal information and your PayPal account address.

Bottom line: I’m not going to quit my day job to rely on it to make my rent payment or car payment but I will keep taking surveys on it to earn a little extra cash.
